22 more cops involved in Nepalgunj mutiny sacked

Twenty two policemen, who were involved in a rebellion at the riot control battalion in Nepalgunj last month, have been sacked.

Taking 'disciplinary action', the police department expelled them from the service after an investigation. Four of the sacked policemen have been declared ineligible for any government service in the future, reports said.

All those facing action were constables. 24 policemen involved in the mutiny were sacked earlier. The regional police office in Nepalgunj has said a few other policemen at the battalion are currently facing investigation.

Junior police officials of the battalion had taken their seniors hostage at gunpoint on July 12, complaining of exploitation and discrimination in ration. The hostage drama had ended after three days with the rebel policemen surrendering before an assault team of security men preparing to storm the battalion to free the hostages. nepalnews.com mk Aug 25 08
