YCL pickets Kalimati vegetable market The Kalimati vegetable market in Kathmandu, the largest vegetable market in the capital, has remained closed Sunday due to gherao by the cadres of Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL). The market has been picketed by YCL cadres since early morning alleging Youth Force – affiliated with CPN (UML) - of misbehaving with traders associated with Maoists. The two groups had clashed on Saturday leaving at least 12 injured. However, the vendors and traders at the market alleged that YCL denied their right to business, forcing them to close the shops. YCL cadres Sunday forcefully closed few shops that had opened in the morning. The traders have threatened to shut the market indefinitely if the YCL cadres continue to hinder their business. Three sides have started talks over the dispute at the initiation of police. nepalnews.com ia Aug 24 08 |
